PORTLAND, Jamaica—Tragedy struck Portland once again in 2024 as the life of 46-year-old Merylin Whyte came to a brutal end on Wednesday, May 1st. Her body was discovered at the home of her child’s father, marking the third homicide in the region this year.
Merylin Whyte, a dedicated laborer from Comfort Castle in Portland, is believed to have fallen victim to a domestic dispute. The police urgently seek Richard Gray, also known as ‘Otis’, who hails from Mill Bank in Portland, to aid their investigations.
According to the authorities, the horrifying event likely transpired between 4:00pm and 7:00pm, during a possible domestic altercation. Upon returning home from work, Donovan Gray, Richard Gray’s brother, made the grisly discovery and promptly alerted the police.
Traces of blood and signs of struggle were found in multiple rooms, painting a harrowing picture of the events that unfolded. Whyte was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead.
This appalling act has shaken the community, and the police have launched a thorough investigation.
St Catherine mechanic charged with sexual assault of girl under 16.
Brandon Brissett, a 28-year-old auto mechanic of Phoenix Park Village, Portmore, St Catherine, The police indicted him with several charges following allegations that he allegedly sexually assaulted a female under 16.
The authorities charged Brissett with sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years old, forcible abduction, grievous sexual assault, sexual grooming of a child, assault at common law, using a firearm to commit an offense, and unlawful detention with intent to commit grievous sexual assault.
He is scheduled to face the court on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Additionally, the police scheduled the accused for further interviews after lottery scamming lead sheets were allegedly found in his possession and the reported recovery of a prohibited weapon and ammunition from his vehicle.
The allegations indicated that the complainant met Brissett sometime in May 2023 and later developed an intimate relationship with him, during which they had sexual intercourse at his house on several different occasions.
It is further reported that on April 27, 2024, at about 3:30 p.m., the complainant was walking home from a shop when the accused offered her a ride.
While in his car, Brissett allegedly pointed a handgun at the complainant and, instead of taking her home, allegedly took her to his house, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him.
On Monday evening, April 29, 2024, the police arrested Brissett and seized his Toyota Mark X motor car.
