It is being suggested that INDECOM may soon attempt to reconstruct the crime scene, ostensibly in pursuit of answers regarding the woman’s death.

According to media reports, Jamaica’s Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is set to reconstruct a crime scene following a reported robbery on Lexington Avenue in Kingston, which tragically claimed the life of 34-year-old Terryesha Maragh. INDECOM’s focus is on determining the circumstances surrounding Maragh’s death on March 26, as well as the events that led to the shooting death of four individuals in separate incidents spanning four parishes between March 26 and 28, 2024.
According to Hugh Faulkner, preliminary reports suggested there was an exchange of bullets between the police and the criminals during the incident, making it difficult to establish whose bullet struck and caused Maragh’s injury and ultimate death. It has been mentioned that a postmortem examination may shed light on this matter.
Faulkner highlighted the importance of establishing the precise cause of the incident, noting that scene reconstruction and forensic processes can assist in these efforts. He emphasized that it is crucial to distinguish between punitive and civil proceedings, as well as the potential for civil proceedings in such cases.
The incident in question involved an off-duty police officer intervening in the robbery of a female pedestrian, during which he fired his weapon at the escaping robbers. Tragically, Maragh, a passenger traveling in a vehicle on Lexington Avenue, was hit by a bullet and subsequently passed away.
INDECOM revealed that the concerned officer has provided an initial account of the events and has been requested to provide a formal statement and attend an interview at the commission’s office. This unfortunate incident, along with others previously mentioned, has contributed to an increase in the number of fatal shootings for March.
According to INDECOM, there were no reports of body-worn cameras being utilized in any of the incidents, including one that occurred during a planned operation. Other incidents mentioned include a fatal shooting in Yallahs, St Thomas, as well as in Manchester and Guy’s Hill, St Catherine. INDECOM has appealed to any witnesses of these incidents to come forward and contact their office.
