Burn victim Alecia King

The allegations are deeply disturbing, as it is reported that King was asleep on August 24, 2023, when her ex-boyfriend, Antwone Grey, set the then 17-year-old ablaze. Rushed to the Linstead Hospital, she was later moved to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where she spent time in the Intensive Care Unit before her family sought the help of the Sanmerna Foundation to arrange for her overseas treatment, in a bid to save her life.

During the emotional welcome home reception at the AC Hotel, Robert White, director of the Sanmerna Foundation, shared the poignant journey of support provided to King, emphasizing the foundation’s vital role in facilitating her treatment abroad.

“Alecia, welcome home. The Lord has brought you back home to us safely. I can reflect on August 24, 2023, when I heard what happened to Alecia, and somehow, the Lord said to me, ‘Prepare; they are going to be at your door tomorrow.’ The next morning, on August 25, at 7:30, Alecia’s family was waiting. I said, ‘How may I help?’ and they said, ‘Mr. Everyone who gets burned in Jamaica ran to Sanmerna Foundation for help, and we need help for Alecia. We want to save her life,’ and from there, the journey began,” White said, highlighting the urgency and gravity of the situation.

He went on to recount King’s ordeal, sharing the critical moments where she came within minutes of losing her life during her six-month treatment at the hospital. He expressed deep gratitude for her survival and safe return to Jamaica, acknowledging the divine intervention that saw her through.

During the reception, King also expressed her gratitude and faith.

“I truly would like to thank the Sanmerna Foundation for believing in me, reaching out to me, and giving me that victory so that I could be here standing right now, praising God and thanking Him for the Shriners Hospital. Those people, they fixed, literally fixed my whole body,” King stated,
