Investigators in St Elizabeth have launched a probe into a fatal shooting that left a car dealer and a suspected robber dead. According to police, the incident occurred early Sunday morning at an auto mart in Longwood near Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

The authorities have identified the deceased as Melvin Blythe, 64, an automart dealer, and Romelle Johnson, o/c “Cow Man”, 34. Johnson was a resident of Santa Cruz, in St Elizabeth.

Investigators theorize that Blythe and Johnson had a struggle sometime after 3:00 am on Sunday.

Police reported that Blythe, a licensed firearm holder, left his home and went to his automart in Longwood on Saturday night. At some point while Blythe was at his business place, he encountered Johnson and a struggle allegedly ensued.

The police said it appeared both men shot each other during the struggle. But they cannot confirm the theory until they get the ballistics report.

Investigators said Blythe’s wife became worried after she made several calls to her husband and he did not answer. As a result, she curiously went to the carmart Sunday evening in search of him. While at the carmart, she stumbled upon his lifeless body.

Mrs. Blythe summond the police to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers followed a trail of blood over a wall, where they found Johnson’s lifeless body clutching Blythe’s licensed firearm.

While processing the scene investigators found a bag of tools and a headlight dismantled from a car, indicating that Johnson was there to steal car parts.

Investigators subsequently removed both bodies to the morgue pending an autopsy and ballistics examination.

The investigation continues, as the authorities work to put the pieces together.
