A man wanted by the police in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in St. Mary on the morning of February 9, 2024, is now in police custody.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the man turned himself in on Thursday evening, and a subsequent search of his residence led to the discovery of an illegal firearm and roughly 30 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is due to be interrogated regarding the shooting death of Ryan Prendergast of Bellfield Pen.
Prendergast tragically lost his life after he and another individual reportedly harvested apples from a property in the community. Upon their departure, they were confronted by a man who claimed to have a lease on the land and began questioning them about the apples.
According to the authorities, the suspect purportedly drew a firearm from his waistband and fired at the men, striking Prendergast in the upper body.
Despite attempts to save him, Prendergast was pronounced dead at the scene; however, the other individual managed to flee.
Police nabbed a St. James man with an illegal firearm.
Mount Salem, Jamaica – A man has been taken into police custody by the Mount Salem police after an illegal firearm was confiscated from him on Friday, February 9, 2024.
As per police reports, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a team of law enforcement officers were patrolling near the Over River Main Road when they heard loud explosions and proceeded to investigate.
Upon reaching a section of the main road, the officers observed a man walking along the roadway with his right hand concealed behind him. His behavior raised suspicion among the law enforcement officers, leading to his apprehension.
Following a search of the suspect, the police discovered a chrome Springfield XD .40 pistol containing six .40 rounds of ammunition.
The identity of the suspect has been withheld by the authorities pending further investigation and formal charges.
The suspect in the Amity Hall shooting is charged with attempted murder.
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A suspect believed to be responsible for the gun attack in Amity Hall, St James on January 27, 2024, has been apprehended and charged by detectives from the St James Police Division.
The individual in question, identified as Ricardo Edwards, also known as ‘Chiney Man’, aged 32 and a resident of Lottery District in St James, faces charges including shooting with intent, using a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on January 27, 2024, when Edwards allegedly drove to a shop in the community and opened fire at the victim. Fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed and promptly reported the incident to the authorities.
Following an investigation, Edwards was arrested and subsequently charged after a question-and-answer interview on Friday, February 2, 2024. His court appearance date is pending.
A University student is caught with an illegal firearm and ammo.
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica—Law enforcement officers from the Specialized Operations – Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) apprehended a university student after discovering a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition along Piece Lane, Newlands in Portmore, St Catherine on Friday, February 9, 2024.
The individual’s identity has been withheld as investigations continue.
According to reports, around 10:05 p.m., officers encountered a group of men gathered in front of a community shop during patrol.
Allegedly, the behavior of the accused individual aroused suspicion, leading the officers to confront and search him. Subsequently, a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight 9mm cartridges was found in a grey and black one-strap bag.
The police have chosen to withhold the suspect’s identity pending further investigation and the filing of formal charges.
A second person is charged in the killing of a Westmoreland teen.
Second Suspect Arrested and Charged in Murder Case
Another development has emerged in the case of the tragic murder of 19-year-old Enrico Chambers, also known as ‘Rico’. Javanie Bacchas, a 30-year-old resident of Johnson Bush, Top Road, Little London in Westmoreland, has been taken into custody and charged as the second suspect in this heinous crime.
The events unfolded on January 18, when an altercation between the three men took a deadly turn. Following a verbal dispute, Bacchas and his co-accused, 18-year-old Wade Dennis, allegedly made threats against Chambers before leaving the scene. Tragically, they returned armed with machetes, chasing and fatally assaulting Chambers.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Chambers succumbed to his injuries. Dennis was apprehended shortly after the incident, while Bacchas surrendered to the authorities on January 29. Following due process, Bacchas was formally charged with the crime on Friday, February 9, 2024. The authorities at the Westmoreland Police Division have been diligently pursuing justice in this heartbreaking case.
