Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in a shooting in the vicinity of Trout Hall near Frankfield in Clarendon. Another individual is currently receiving medical care following a distressing Friday afternoon in the parish.
Specific motives for these fatal events remain unclear at this moment, as authorities are actively conducting an investigation into the matter.
Popcaan fined $40,000 for night noise breach.
On Friday, February 9, 2024, a St. Thomas Parish Court judge issued a ruling requiring Dancehall artist ‘Popcaan’ to either pay a fine of $40,000 or undergo a 30-day imprisonment for violating the Noise Abatement Act.
The artist, known as Andrae Sutherland, faced charges in connection with the hosting of ‘Unruly Fest’ in St. Thomas on December 23, 2023.
Earlier, on January 10, 2024, he was fined $6,000 after pleading guilty to using indecent language, disorderly conduct, abusive and calumnious language, and making threats to police officers.
The entertainer was brought before the court due to his use of offensive language and behavior directed at the police during Unruly Fest.
However, the court had instructed the artist to appear again on Friday in relation to the charge under the Noise Abatement Act.

In a confrontation with law enforcement officers in the Kingston Western division on Thursday, February 8, 2024, a man who opened fire on the officers was fatally shot in return. The police seized a pistol at the scene but have not yet identified the deceased.
Reports indicate that at approximately 10 p.m., a police team patrolling Mexico Heights, Trench Town, noticed a group of men standing along a pathway, who then behaved suspiciously upon the officers’ approach. One of the men reportedly brandished a firearm and fired at the police, initiating an exchange of gunfire. The assailant was shot, and a semi-automatic pistol was confiscated from him, while the other men managed to escape.
A laborer is charged with the May 10, 2023, Maxfield Avenue shooting.
On Thursday, February 8, 2024, detectives assigned to the Half Way Tree Police Station in St. Andrew charged a male suspect with the May 10, 2023, shooting along Maxfield Avenue in St. Andrew.
Maurice Daley, also known as ‘Chaka Berry,’ aged 49, a laborer, faced charges including wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of prohibited ammunition, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.
According to the Half-Way Tree police, at about 9:45 p.m. on May 10, 2023, the complainant was awaiting transportation along Maxfield Ave when a white Toyota Probox motor car carrying several men pulled up beside him. Suddenly, one of the men brandished a gun and opened fire at the complainant, inflicting multiple injuries before speeding away.
The police promptly responded and aided the injured individual to the hospital. Subsequently, officers conducted an investigation that resulted in Daley’s arrest and subsequent formal charges.
His court date is pending.
Police indicted Kingston teen following Gold Street shooting.
The police have brought charges against a Kingston teenager for multiple felonies stemming from the shooting on Gold Street in Kingston on February 4, 2024.
The accused has been identified as 19-year-old Tyler Walker, also known as “Puss,” a shoemaker from East Queen Street, Kingston.
Walker faces charges of wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Reports indicate that around 9:50 p.m., the victim was walking along Gold Street when Walker and another individual ambushed him and opened fire, resulting in injuries.
Police arrived at the scene and assisted the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation, Walker was arrested and subsequently identified in a formal lineup before being charged.
Walker is scheduled to appear in the Gun Court on February 15, 2024.
Prisoner escapes Morgan’s Bridge lock-up as PM tours division.
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness conducted a tour of the Grange Hill Division in Westmoreland on Friday night, February 9, 2024, during which an escapee eluded law enforcement officers at the Morgan’s Bridge Police Station.
As per an Observer Online source, the escapee managed to abscond while the police were processing the release of another individual on bail. Despite the police’s efforts to apprehend the escapee as they pursued him through the community, they were unsuccessful, and the escapee remains at large.
The nature of the offense(s) for which the man was in custody remains unclear.
Despite this incident, the Prime Minister’s tour of the parish proceeded without disruption, as planned engagements with supporters in various areas of Westmoreland continued as scheduled throughout the day.
A St James man is found in possession of an illegal firearm.
The Mount Salem police in St. James apprehended a man on Friday after discovering an illegal firearm in his possession.
As per police reports, officers were on patrol near the Over River main road around 2:00 a.m. when they heard loud noises and proceeded to investigate.
Upon reaching a certain section of the main road, they observed a man standing by the roadside with his right hand behind him. His behavior triggered suspicion, prompting the police to approach and detain him.
After conducting a search, authorities found a chrome Springfield XD .40 pistol containing six .40 rounds of ammunition.
The individual was taken into custody and is currently undergoing questioning at the station. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
