`CTragedy in St. Mary, Jamaica
A fatal incident occurred in Belfield Pen, St. Mary, on Thursday, February 7, 2024, when two individuals trespassed on a property to pick apples. The situation escalated when the property owner confronted them, resulting in one of the trespassers, Ryan Prendergast, tragically losing his life after being shot in the upper body.

The perpetrator fled the scene after the shooting, leaving authorities to initiate an investigation into the matter. This devastating event has left the community in shock and mourning.
A 23-year-old Kingston man is charged with murder.
Jahdane Henry, 23, a resident of a Slipe Road address in Kingston, has been arrested and charged by the police for the 2023 murder of Adjonie Bonfield.
As per reports, Henry, along with three other men, including his brother Demar Henry, forcibly entered Bonfield’s residence and proceeded to open fire, resulting in Bonfield sustaining upper body injuries. Subsequently, the assailants stole a Samsung mobile phone from a woman present on the premises before fleeing the scene.
Following an operation, the police apprehended Henry and subsequently formalized charges against him on February 7, 2024, after conducting a question-and-answer session.
The scheduling of his court appearance is currently underway.
Two cops charged over shooting outside a fast-food restaurant in Ocho Rios.
Two of the three police officers currently held in custody have been formally charged by the police in connection with the fatal shooting of a man outside a Mother’s fast-food restaurant in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on January 27, 2024.
According to a police source, the authorities have charged the men with misprision of a felony, indicating that they knowingly failed to report a crime. The same charge is expected to be brought against the third police officer and five civilians, all of whom are also in custody.
Additionally, it has been reported that the police officers will face a charge of misconduct in a public office.
As of now, the police have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased in the shooting.
A Westmoreland bike taxi operator is charged with rape of a minor.
The Westmoreland police say they have arrested and charged 26-year-old Omar Myrie for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in the parish.
According to reports, the teen was a pillion on Myrie’s bike taxi at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Instead of transporting the teen to her destination, Myrie allegedly detoured and took her to his place of abode, and assaulted her.
The incident was reported to the police, who initiated an investigation. The police arrested and charged Myrie on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. His court date is pending.
Two people were injured in a collision involving a JLP motorcade
A woman sustained serious injuries following a collision involving a truck carrying Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters in Roach Gully, St Thomas, on Thursday afternoon, February 8, 2024.
James Robertson, the Member of Parliament for St Thomas Western, stated during Radio Jamaica’s Beyond the Headlines discussion program that a man was also injured in the incident.
Both individuals were promptly taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where the woman underwent surgery.
Reports indicate that one of the woman’s legs was severed during the crash.
It is understood that the collision occurred around 4 p.m. while a motorcade was en route to Morant Bay following nomination day activities, colliding with another vehicle while negotiating a corner.
