Residents St Catherine are perturbed over garbage pile-up
Unacceptable garbage pile-up in St Catherine has spurred the sanitation committee of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation to call for the removal of the head of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Audley Gordon.
The committee’s chairman, Sydney Rose, cited garbage pile-up throughout St Catherine as the main reason for the committee’s action, claiming Gordon “cannot manage” the post he occupies.
“We are fully aware that the operational failure which resulted in a backlog is a result of bad management. Mr Gordon cannot manage, and he must be replaced,” Rose said.

Rose spoke at Thursday’s general meeting of the Municipal Corporation.
During the meeting, parish manager Nigel Gooden revealed 71 loads of uncollected garbage throughout St Catherine.
“We are lagging because of the constant rains, which resulted in greater challenges even on the landfill. But we are working to address the issue,” Gooden said.

Councillor for the Waterford division, Fenley Douglas, also complained about the great challenge in garbage collection in his division.
“We need proper collections, as in the more affluent communities. These problems don’t exist there! It is as if we are having two Jamaica,” Douglas said.
