Opposition Spokesman on Finance wants full disclosure of SSL costs to taxpayers.

Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, is calling on the government to provide the public with more transparency regarding the ongoing investigation into the massive fraud at Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL). The financial implications of this scandal are concerning, and taxpayers have the right to know how much it will cost them to compensate the victims and pay the staff at SSL.

The Financial Investigations Division has revealed that the number of defrauded accounts at SSL has surged to 70 since the probe began in January. Initially, 40 accounts were reported to have been affected, but the scope of the fraud has since widened. This unfortunate situation has undoubtedly caused significant financial losses, distress, and mistrust among investors.

In addition to shedding light on the financial impact of this scandal, Mr. Robinson has also raised concerns about the expenses related to hiring overseas firms to assist with the fraud probe. While it is crucial to cooperate with international experts to unravel complex financial crimes, the public deserves to know how much these services are costing and if it is a justifiable expense.

Transparency and accountability are essential in times of crisis. It is vital for the government to provide regular updates on the progress of the investigation, the steps being taken to recover funds, and the measures being implemented to prevent such frauds in the future. Public faith in the financial sector needs to be restored, and this can only be achieved through an open and transparent process.

As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial that all those responsible for the fraud at SSL are held accountable, both legally and financially. The affected individuals and businesses deserve justice, and steps must be taken to ensure their losses are recouped to the fullest extent possible.

In conclusion, the government must act swiftly and transparently in addressing the SSL fraud scandal. By providing detailed information on the financial implications, expenses incurred, and steps taken to prevent future frauds, they can begin to regain the public’s trust and reassure investors that their interests are being safeguarded.
