Spanish Town cops have charged ambush and murder suspect “Tutu”. Police officers assigned to the Spanish Town CIB arrested and charged a suspect following an ambush and fatal shooting of a farmer and injuring of his wife in St Catherine.
Investigators have identified the accused as Jamie Stephenson, affectionately known as “Tutu,” 33. He is a resident of Mansfield Heights, Ocho Rios, in St Ann, Jamaica.
Cops from the Spanish Town CIB have identified the late farmer as 62-year-old Clement Mills.
Jamie Stephenson is facing charges of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, wounding with intent, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Tragically, on May 15 at around 11:00 a.m., Mills and his wife were driving in their 2005 Toyota Liteace van, filled with water they had collected in Lluidasvale.
Reports indicated that as they entered a section of the road that goes to Point Hill, a man emerged from the bushes. Then, he brandished a gun, and allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, hitting the couple.
As a result, Mills lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash along the roadway.
The police reponded to the scene of the tragic ambush and swiftly assisted the couple to the Linstead Hospital. While at the hospital, the authorities pronounced Clement Mills dead, and admitted his wife for treatment.
Thanks to the diligent work of investigators from the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch. The police apprehended Stephenson approximately four hours after the incident.
During his arrest, the police reportedly removed one illegal firearm from Stephenson’s person.
Eyewitnesses later identified Stephenson in a ID parade on May 25. Detectives charged him following a thorough questioning with his attorney present.
Stephenson is currently awaiting his court date, as the community seeks justice and healing from this heartbreaking event.
