Police reported that after four years without recording a single murder in August Town, St. Andrew, violence has erupted again with the killings of two brothers just one week apart.
Police have identified Oshane Morris, also known as Chucky, as the individual who allegedly ordered these attacks.
The most recent of the two murders occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 23. It has been reported that the police found the victim with gunshot wounds to the head, and his body partially burned. The officers had responded to the scene after a fire broke out at premises on August Town Road.
Police have not release the identity of the man who was killed on Saturday morning, but he and his slain brother are said to be relatives of reggae singer Etana.
Following the murder, Etana took to social media to claim that her family has targeted.
“My relatives are under attack in August Town. They have taken a second person this morning. He is mentally ill and they have burned my aunt’s shop to the ground,” she said in the post.
Police Superintendent Mark Harris, who leads the St. Andrew Central Police Division responsible for August Town, stated that officers have been persistent in their attempts to capture Morris. The police have placed Morris on their wanted list for nearly a year.
Police cut down two men allegedly linked to the quintuple murder in the Commodore district, in St Catherine, Jamaica
On Sunday, the police shot and killed two men during an alleged confrontation in Lluidas Vale, St. Catherine. The incident occurred when officers intercepted a vehicle believed to be carrying a person of interest in last year’s brutal quintuple murder in the Commodore district.
According to reports, at about 6:00 pm, a police team acting on intelligence intercepted a Honda Stream motorcar along the Lluidas Vale main road.
The police reportedly followed the vehicle to Mountain Piece Road, where they signalled the driver to stop. The driver complied. But when the officers exited their service vehicle, the occupants aboard the Honda opened fire.
As expected, the police took evasive actions and returned the fire.
When the shooting ceased, the brave officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. The cops rushed the injured men to the Linstead hospital, where a doctor pronounced them dead.
Law enforcement officials have withheld the identities of the deceased pending further investigation.
Additionally, the cops reported that three of the men aboard the Honda escaped.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
