Police busted a car stealing ring, arrested two men, and seized 11 vehicles in St Catherine car.   

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica—On Sunday, July 31, 2023, the Old Harbor police disrupted a major car-stealing ring. They arrested two men and seized 11 stolen vehicles during snap operations in the Gordonwood District, Church Pen, St Catherine.

The vehicles police seized include six Nissan AD wagons, a Nissan Tiida, a Mitsubishi Lancer, two Toyota Wish, and a Toyota Avensis. In addition, the police recovered a substantial cache of car parts, which they believed were also stolen.

Top Gum Shoes from the Old Harbor Criminal Investigation Branch (C.I.B.) are conducting the investigations. 

The police are asking anyone who has reported their car stolen to come forward to see if their vehicles match the descriptions of the confiscated cars. They can call 876-203-3659.

Two robbers jumped from a taxi as the driver threatened to crash the vehicle.

Detectives from the Kingston East Division have charged a teen student after he allegedly held a taxi operator at gunpoint and attempted to rob him at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Elletson Road in Kingston on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Reports are that the robbery attempt went south when the taxi operator threatened to crash the vehicle. The incident took place on Sunday, Jul 23.

The police charged Kimani Small, o/c ‘Kun,’ age 18, a student of Anderson Street in Kingston, with assault with the intent to rob, assault at common law, and being armed with a prohibited weapon.

According to the police, at about 11:00 am, the suspect and another man boarded a taxi in the Manley Meadows community on the day in question. One of the men sat at the rear of the vehicle, while the other sat in the front passenger seat.

The man seated in the car’s back seat reportedly brandished a firearm, held it at the driver’s head, and demanded all his property. The driver started to speed and threatened to crash the car. Both men panicked and jumped from the vehicle.

On Monday, Jul 31, the police arrested Small and placed him on an I.D. parade. The complainant pointed him out to the police. The police subsequently charged him.

Small’s court appearance date is pending.

Meanwhile, the police are hot on the heels of the suspect’s alleged accomplice.
