ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — On Monday 15, 2023, the police arrested a 24-year-old St Elizabeth woman and her 32-year-old brother after they seized an illegal firearm during a joint police-military operation at premises in the Dry Harbour district near Lacovia.

According to Superintendent Kenneth Chin, Commander of the St Elizabeth Police, at about noon, May 15, 2023, the police conducted a targeted “snap raid” at a house in the Dry Harbour District.
During the operation, the police searched a knapsack and found a chrome .45 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing four .45 cartridges.
As a result, the police arrested two siblings, a 32-year-old male and a 24-year-old female, in connection with the seizure.
“I thank the teams for making the best use of the limited resources in maintaining the operational outputs which are reaping success. The parish is safer because of your effective police presence,” he added.

Monday’s incident follows Friday’s seizure of three firearms by the St Elizabeth police in Luana and Spring Park.
Superintendent Chin reiterated the importance of citizens partnering with the police.
“I must also highlight the police-citizens relationship in the parish, which has resulted in several successes, including a 180 percent increase in the number of illegal firearms taken out of the hands of criminals compared to last year,” he said.

Motorcyclist mowed down cop at a traffic checkpoint.
A Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement constable was hospitalized after getting mowed down by a motorcyclist at a traffic checkpoint in Kingston on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
According to reports, at about 3:00 pm, on Sunday, May 14, 2023, a team of law enforcement officers assigned to the Public Safety Division conducted a traffic checkpoint operation along the Six Miles roadway. During the procedure, the police team signaled a motorcyclist to stop.
The driver disobeyed the order and hit the officer with the motorcycle before speeding away.
The constable sustained injuries to the back of his head and legs.
His colleagues rushed him to the hospital, where authorities admitted him for treatment.
The Hunts Bay police have launched a search for the motorcyclist.
