Popcaan going independent had enough of Drake and OVO.

Dancehall artiste, Popcaan seems he has had enough of Drake and his OVO label. Because in an interview with Crack Magazine, the “Where We Come From” singer hinted that he would be independent soon. The artist wants to put out more albums than OVO will allow, so he will cut ties with OVO as soon as his contract expires.

“I try to appeal to my Jamaican artists, telling all of them to put out more albums. People see Jamaican music as singles.” But Popcaan believes dancehall’s output can – and should – be more than that. That’s why he’s made this album and plans to put out another one this year, using a new collection of completed tracks. “I have so much music.” He lowers his voice, leaning forward: “The label can be weird sometimes. I love the label, but I don’t like them.” He glances at his manager, smiling mischievously. “But I’ll be independent soon.”

Hence, it is reasonable to assume Popcaan is unsatisfied with the strength he is getting from Drake and his OVO label.

Mr. Vegas was spot on when he classified Drake as fake.

In May 2016, Dancehall artiste Mr. Vegas raised suspicion about Drake when the Canadian rapper released an album with samples of Beenie Man and Popcaan but failed to credit the artists on the album cover. Vegas goes on to brand as “Drake the fake,” and accuses the rapper of only using dancehall because it was the hottest genre then.

But shortsighted Popcaan rubbished Mr. Vegas for speaking ill of his friend. He released a video dissing Vegas and praising Drake.

Popcaan scolded Mr. for calling Canadian rapper Drake fake.

Now, seven years later, the chickens come home to roost, and Popcaan cannot wait to get out of the deal he signed with Drake.
