The police shot and neutralized a suspect in Portmore, St Catherine on Saturday, September 12, 2026 after he allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Shane Williams, also known as “Baller,” “Gaza Toussaint,” and “Teachable.” Williams was a 37-year-old laborer residing in Portmore, St. Catherine, in Jamaica.
Shane Williams was known in the dancehall space as a former member of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire in St Catherine. He appeared on several recordings associated with Kartel, including “House a Bun Dung” and “Every Girl.”
Williams gained national attention when police charged him alongside Vybz Kartel and others. The case was in connection with the 2011 death of Clive “Lizard” Williams. However, the court found Shane Williams not guilty and a jury acquitted him in March 2014.
Investigators reported that Williams was a suspect in an anti-gang investigation. He is the fourth person the police have neutralized during alleged confrontations that took place between Saturday and early Sunday.
According to the police report, at approximately 3:45 pm, officers from the St. Catherine South Police Division were patrolling the Cumberland community. They had received intelligence indicating that Williams was traveling in a vehicle with an illegal firearm.
The police identified the vehicle and signaled the driver to stop, but he refused and aimed a gun at the officers.
Fearing for their lives, the officers took evasive action and fired at the vehicle to neutralize the threat.
As a result, the car crashed into an embankment. After the shooting, the police found Williams slumped over the steering wheel with multiple gunshot wounds.
The report indicated that the police allegedly recovered one .38 Smith and Wesson revolver, with the serial number K467447, loaded with five bullets.
Authorities at the Spanish Town General Hospital pronounced Williams deceased.
The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDICOM) is probing the shooting.
JDF soldier succumbed to gunshot wounds in Kingston.
In another incident which occurred on Sunday, September 13, residents of Eve’s Lane in Kingston, Jamaica, stumbled upon the lifeless body of a man and summoned police.
The authorities have identified the deceased man as 37-year-old Andrae Thompson, from Independence City, St. Catherine. He was a member of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF).
According to the Kingston Central police, residents heard explosions at approximately 11:00 pm, and called the authorities.
When the police arrived, they found Thompson lying face down next to a Toyota Axio motor car, with multiple bullet wounds to his upper body. The police rushed him to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment.
Detectives from the Central police CIB have launched a probe into the tragic incident.
