Cops in St Ann have officially charged a security guard after he allegedly shot a male customer during a physical altercation at a supermarket in Discovery Bay, St Ann.
The police said the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 7.
Gareth Wright, 51, from the Standfast district in Brown’s Town, faces charges of wounding with intent, using a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm with intent to cause injury.
According to the Discovery Bay police, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a man entered the supermarket where Wright was employed. As he was leaving the store, Wright reportedly requested to search the man’s bag, but the man refused.
As a result, a physical altercation developed between the two men. During the fight, Wright allegedly used his licensed firearm and shoot the customer in the abdomen.
The police responded quickly, and transported the injured man to the hospital, where the authorities admitted him for treatment.
Investigators subsequently arrested and charged Wright after reviewing CCTV footage and obtaining a statement from the complainant.
Wright court appearance date is pending.
14-year-old among two, cops charged for possession of an imitation firearm.
Cops in St Thomas charged a laborer and a teenage boy with possession of a prohibited weapon following the seizure of an imitation firearm on July 5.
The authorities have identified the accused as Delano Willis, o/c ‘Delli’, 20, and a 14-year-old boy. Both men are residents of St Thomas.
According to the Morant Bay Police, an off-duty police officer attended an event in the community. While there, he received information that individuals were seen with a firearm.
Acting on the received information, the officer reportedly observed Willis handing what appeared to be a firearm to a 14-year-old.
Based on his observation, the cop approached both individuals and administered a search on their person.
During the search, the officer allegedly removed a green imitation firearm from the teen’s waistband.
As a result, the cops arrested both individuals and placed them in custody at the Morant Bay Police lockups.
Later, the cops charged the accused after a question-and-answer sessions conducted in the presence of their attorneys and the teen’s guardian.
The court appearance date for both men is pending.
