TRELAWNY, Jamaica – A video seen on social media showing a man brandishing a fat 357 Magnum pistol on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, has spurred law enforcement authorities into launching an investigation.
Gum Shoes assigned to the Trelawny Police Division alleged that the man seen in the video handling a firearm and making threatening remarks towards the Police–explicitly stating, “Mampy, Da one ya name kill Police,” referring to the weapon in his possession, is Jason Wright, age 33, a farmer from Cemetery Road in Troy, Trelawny.
According to law enforcement authorities, they have determined that Wright recorded the video at the residence in Troy district, Trelawny, where he resides with his father and uncle.
The Police said they responded to the viral video with an early morning operation at Wright’s residence on October 18, 2023, but he was absent. However, they have taken two of his close relatives into custody for interrogation.
The Police said Wright frequently visits Kingston and Breeze Hole in Christian, Manchester.
The authorities said, “Due to the video and subsequent findings, Wright is now a person of interest in a case concerning the possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.”
The Police urged Wright to turn himself in immediately. He is encouraged to do so in the company of his attorney, a justice of the peace, or any reputable citizen.
