Hegseth is under fire; Democrats demand his head. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faces calls for resignation from Democratic lawmakers after a Pentagon Inspector General report accused him of using the unsecured Signal app to share sensitive military details, risking troop safety. The report indicated that Hegseth transmitted operational information via his personal device during a March operation in Yemen, violating Department of Defense policies. Critics argue that his actions demonstrate poor judgment and raise national security concerns.
The report confirmed that the information was derived from a classified email marked “SECRET//NOFORN,” which could harm national security if intercepted. This breach of protocol endangered US troops and violated Department of Defense policies. Additionally, the Defense Department has not authorized the use of Signal for transmitting classified information.
Even so, Hegseth has denied the allegations, asserting that none of the shared information was classified.
However, he refused to grant an interview to the Inspector General but provided written responses. His spokesperson accused mainstream media of spreading “fake news.”
Also, according to AP, a Colombian family on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, filed the first legal challenge against US airstrikes on alleged drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific with an inter-American human rights watchdog.
Alejandro Andres Carranza Medina, a 42-year-old fisherman, was among over 80 people killed in 21 confirmed airstrikes carried out by the Trump administration since September. Carranza’s wife and four children insist he was on a fishing expedition and not carrying drugs when his boat was struck Sept. 15.
The complaint alleges Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the strike without knowing who was aboard, violating Carranza’s right to due process and a fair trial. Hegseth is also facing scrutiny from US lawmakers over a follow-up strike on another alleged drug boat days earlier that killed two survivors of the first strike.
