Paul Stephenson, the St. Catherine man, charged with assault after allegedly injecting his girlfriend with a toxic substance during a domestic dispute, is now facing a murder charge following her death.
Charged is 51-year-old Paul Stephenson, otherwise called ‘Pablo’, of New Harbor Village, St Catherine.
The police have identified the deceased as 29-year-old Tieah Singh of Old Paisley district in May Pen, Clarendon.
According to the police, on Tuesday, June 9, at around 10 a.m., Stephenson and Singh became involved in an argument.
Investigators claim that amidst the disagreement, Paul Stephenson became irate. Then, he allegedly use a syringe and injected Singh with a harmful substance. Moments later, while still enraged, Stephenson pepper-sprayed the woman in the face.
Further, the police alleged that after the incident, Stephenson transported Singh to her home in May Pen and left her there.
Singh later became ill. Then a relative took her to May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, Jamaica, where she was admitted in serious condition.
Acting on information, the police subsequently arrested and charged Paul Stephenson with assault occasioning bodily harm.
While receiving treatment, hospital officials reportedly informed Singh that the substance the accused allegedly injected into her was a toxic agricultural chemical. Farmers primarily used it to control weeds
Still, despite their efforts, the hospital medical staff could not save singh. She succumbed on Thursday, June 11.
As a result, detectives assigned to the Old Harbor Police Station upgraded the case and charged Paul Stephenson with murder.
Investigators have yet to decide on a court appearance date for Paul Stephenson.
Singh’s untimely passing has sent shockwaves throughout her community, raising concerns about domestic safety and violence. She was a young woman with a bright future ahead of her. She had high hopes for the next chapter in her life after recently graduating as a pharmacy technician.
