Police Search for Man Who Fled Custody
Police Officers Search for Escaped Prisoner Camfa Ball in Kingston. The St Andrew South police have launched a high-level search. They aim to recapture a prisoner. The prisoner fled custody early Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025.
Authorities identified the fugitive as 29-year-old Garfield Dias, o/c ‘Camfa Ball,’ from St. Paul Lane, in Kingston, Jamaica.
The police described Garfield Dias as having a dark complexion. He has a medium build. There are scars on the left side of his head and right arm.
According to the police officers, Dias fled from a corporate area hospital while under police guard. The troubling escape occurred around 4 a.m. The police had detained him on charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The authorities are urging Dias to surrender. They also asked anyone who knows where Dias is hiding to contact the Hunts Bay Police at 876 923-7111. You can also call the 119 police emergency number or the nearest police station.
The police officers also want to remind the public that harboring a fugitive is a criminal offense.
Man shot dead in St Andrew confrontation with police officers
Early Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, another Jamaican citizen died from a bullet from the security forces. The tragedy allegedly happened during a shootout. This involved members of the security forces along Grant’s Pen Drive in St Andrew.
Dead is Gerald Gallimore, otherwise called ‘Birdie’.
Law enforcement officials said that at about 12:03 a.m., a team of police officers conducted an operation along Grant’s Pen Drive.
During the operation, police officers encountered Gallimore, who allegedly opened fire at the officers.
As a result, the police took evasive action and returned fire. A shootout ensued, during which Gallimore sustained gunshot injuries.
The police officers allegedly recovered a Glock 27 Gen 40 pistol. It was affixed with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition. This was found near Gallimore at the scene.
Police officers transported Gallimore to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the tragedy.
