The authorities have yet to release the details of the police raid in Portland.

But, unconfirmed reports suggest the authorities identified the suspect as Damion Rose, 45. 

The police indicted him for possession of a prohibited weapon. They also charged him with unauthorized possession of ammunition. Finally, he was charged with using a premises to store a prohibited weapon.

Law enforcement also charged Rose with using a premises to stockpile weapons.

Additionally, investigators also seized J$21 million and US$46,000 during the police raid in Portland.

The Financial Investigations Division is probing the source of the cash.

Mr Rose was among six persons arrested during a police raid at the service station on Saturday.

His two sons, aged 14 and 15, were among the six suspects the police charged. Law enforcement later released the boys on station bail.

The police charged three other adults, which included two gas station attendants.

A court date for the accused is pending, and the investigation is ongoing.

 Residents in Portland and St. Mary are still in shock. They are mourning the untimely passing of popular businessman, Samuel Dixon. He was a gas station owner and was otherwise called ‘Frauty.’

A lone assailant allegedly waited for Dixon at his home. They gunned him down on Monday, March 24, 2025, as he arrived home in Tower Isle, St. Mary.

It’s been more than a week, and the police have yet to produce an official report on the tragic shooting.

But, an unnamed police source said the gun attack unfolded sometime between 6:40 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that Dixon had arrived home. The assailant, who apparently had been lying in wait. He fired at Dixon’s vehicle.

Dixon, reportedly exited the vehicle and ran but his attacker chased him and shot him several times. 

The police responded and transported Dixon to the Port Maria hospital, where the medical staff pronounced him dead.

Dixon, was a native of Port Antonio in Portland. He owned several businesses along the north coast, mainly in St. Ann where he owned two gas stations.

He also owned a car mart in White River in Ocho Rios and another in Port Antonio, Portland.

A man who worked closely with Dixon expressed his shock upon hearing the news of the businessman’s passing.

“He was wealthy, but he was also very kind,” he stated.

Social media users have been paying their respects to Dixon. Many are acknowledging his contributions to the business sector in the resort town of Ocho Rios.

The St Mary police are probing the case.
