Authorities confirmed the deceased as 22-year-old Tyesha Manhurt, who was unemployed. 29-year-old Wendy Lamey was also unemployed. 27-year-old Andre McLeish was a factory worker. Eight-year-old Troy Stewart was the youngest. All four deceased were from Kingston.

The Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) listed the possible causes of the deadly collision. It said Distracted driving is one cause. Excessive speeding is another. Another factor is a “collision with a vehicle in an earlier accident.”

A black 2022 Mercedes Benz motorcar and a gray 2002 Toyota ProBox motorcar were the vehicles involved in the accident.

The PSTEB said the accident reportedly occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on the eastbound section along the PJ Patterson Highway.

According to the police, the Toyota Probox was going easterly towards Kingston. The passengers included two women and the child.

The Probox driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit a median. As a result, the motorcar overturned.

Some good Samaritan rushed the victims to the Spanish Town Hospital. Still, it was too late, and the authorities pronounced them dead.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr. Lucien Jones, described the tragic collision as “shocking.”

I was shocked to learn that this morning, four people died on the nation’s roads. Two women and two men were among the victims. One of the men was an eight-year-old child. All of the victims were under the age of 30.

“This is shocking,” said Jones in a statement on Sunday. “It is occurring on one of the best roads in the country.”

Distracted driving. He said the crash increased the number of fatalities from motor vehicle crashes on the nation’s roadways. The total has reached 92 this year.

“Everybody has to be on deck with this. The entire nation needs to try and put a stop to this multiple fatality crash,” said Jones.

“All hands must be on deck to stop this madness. Excessive speeding, distracted driving, and distracted walking on our roads must end,” Jones added.
