Law enforcers discovered the cache during a joint operation. The operation involved agents from the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA). It also included the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID).

The authorities have stated that this latest gun bust is a significant blow to organized crime. They are ramping up efforts to combat illegal firearms and narcotics.

According to reports, at about 10:30 a.m., JCA agents conducted a security screening at the warehouse and detected irregularities with a shipment. The authorities then notified FNID, which carried out further checks and uncovered the contraband.

The items seized included 16 pistols, 25 magazines, and 259 rounds of ammunition.

Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe is the Director of FNID. He stated that this gun bust serves as a reminder. It highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement. Their goal is to secure Jamaica’s borders against illegal items.

“Every illegal firearm removed from circulation represents lives saved and brings us closer to a safer Jamaica,” Rowe stated. He added, “We will continue to pursue individuals involved in the trafficking of firearms. We will also target narcotics trafficking. This will enhance the safety and security of citizens.”

The police are urging anyone with information that could assist with the investigation to come forward.

In recent months, the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Customs Agency have seized a total of 148 illegal firearms. They have also seized approximately 8,000 assorted rounds shipped from the United States to legitimate ports of entry.

There have been at least three major gun busts at wharves in Kingston during this period. Several other discoveries were made at warehouses. On one occasion, a woman and her two sons were detained in Manchester.
