What Are You Thankful For?: Reflections on Thanksgiving

What Are You Thankful For?: Reflections on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, a cherished American holiday, is a time of reflection and gratitude. Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, it has deep historical roots dating back to the early 17th century.

The Pilgrims, who had settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, held a feast to give thanks for a successful harvest, marking the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day.

The Pilgrims, in a spirit of gratitude, shared the feast with the Wampanoag Native Americans, who had played a crucial role in helping the Pilgrims survive their first year in the New World. This act of sharing and unity is a key part of the Thanksgiving story.

Over the decades, Thanksgiving has evolved beyond its original purpose. It is now a time for families and friends to gather, share a meal, and express gratitude for their blessings. This evolution has made Thanksgiving a deeply personal and meaningful holiday for many.

Traditional Thanksgiving meals often include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.

Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of the holiday season in the United States, leading to Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. It’s a time for reflection, gratitude, and spending quality time with loved ones.

What are you thankful for? I have more reasons to be thankful than just those we typically celebrate, and there are many beyond what I can list here. Like everyone else, I sometimes take things for granted. However, on this day focused on Thanksgiving, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our virtues and count our blessings.

Father in Heaven, I thank you for your saving Grace. You sent your only son to die so that a wretched soul like me could live. I know I do not deserve it.

I appreciate that you overlooked my faults and prioritized my needs. Being alive and in good health is much more than I could ask for. Your mercies extend far beyond what is tangible and obvious.

Lord, I thank you for the many things I often take for granted. Things like Mother Nature in all her glory. And the air I breathe, which, of course, is free.

Aba Papa, thank you for giving me hope. Millions of people around the world have lost their faith. They are unsure of their future and whether they will find their way. However, it’s not too late for them to restore their hope. They can have the same hope that I have.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!
