Downtown Kingston: Police Safety Tips For Holiday Shopping. As the shopping season approaches, the police are urging shoppers to adopt safe practices and be vigilant as they conduct business in the busy market district in Downtown Kingston.
The police warn that the increase in commerce, especially on Beckford Street, usually attracts thieves who prey on unsuspecting shoppers.
Inspector David Lowe, sub-officer in charge of the Public Order team, emphasized the importance of vendors abiding by the system the police have put in place to maintain order and safety during the busy shopping season, especially in Downtown Kingston.
Inspector Lowe reiterated the police’s advice, asking shoppers to avoid traveling with large sums of cash on their person and not to wear expensive jewelry, chains, chaparritas, or rings, providing you with the guidance you need to stay safe.
Additionally, the police asked shoppers not to travel to Downtown Kingston with their electronic devices because they would attract criminals.
Inspector Lowe said the police want shoppers to do everything possible to prevent criminal acts.
Further, inspector Lowe said the mass increase in pedestrians and vendors along Beckford Street would make it difficult for vehicles to navigate.
However, Lowe said the authorities have cleared and cleaned the area so vehicles can access the roadway easily Downtown Kingston.
Lowe said emergency vehicles will be capable of responding to any emergency. He noted that the fire brigade, the police, ambulances, and pedestrians can move in one direction from Orange Street to West Street.
He said the extensive cleanup in the shopping district has made it easier for the police to access the space, a proactive measure to ensure your safety.
