CLARENDON, Jamaica–It is with deep concern that we report on the unfortunate events that transpired in a Clarendon community on Friday evening, July 26, 2024. Two individuals, including an off-duty police constable assigned to May Pen Police Station, were shot and injured in separate but related incidents.

According to police reports, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 21-year-old laborer was sitting outside a relative’s shop on Inverness Drive when he was targeted by two gunmen who opened fire, resulting in injuries to his lower body.

It’s worth noting that the off-duty officer, who was attending a church proceeding nearby, courageously intervened upon hearing the commotion. He challenged the assailants and attempted to protect the community, but tragically sustained injuries himself when the gunmen returned fire before fleeing the area. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this distressing series of events.
