After overcoming numerous challenges, Ryan Evans, Director of Corruption Prevention at the Integrity Commission, is now eager to push ahead with the investigation into the shooting incident on September 21, 2023, in which he was the victim.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, responsible for overseeing the crime portfolio, confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, that Mr. Evans had not been able to cooperate with the police in the investigation due to concerns for his safety.
During an interview with Radio Jamaica’s Beyond the Headlines on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Mr. Evans expressed his determination to move past the event, despite the deep impact it has had on him and the ongoing fear and trauma he experiences.
He explained, “In February, the police approached me, and I provided a comprehensive statement at the station. Although I didn’t sign the statement at that time due to the ongoing trauma, I later took the time to review the matter and put my thoughts in writing.”
Mr. Evans also acknowledged that passing by the area of the compound where the incident occurred serves as a reminder of the harrowing experience.
However, he emphasized his readiness to move forward and pledged to reach out to the police in order to facilitate progress in the investigation.
Senior Citizen Arrested and Charged for Allegedly Injuring Teen During Argument in Hanover.
HANOVER, Jamaica— A senior citizen was arrested and charged after allegedly attacking a teenager during a dispute in the Montpelier district of Sandy Bay, Hanover.
Igal Streets, also known as ‘Border,’ a 67-year-old carpenter from the Montpelier district in Hanover, was formally charged with wounding with intent following an incident on Monday, July 15, 2024, at approximately 3:07 p.m. The altercation between Streets and a 15-year-old boy turned physical, culminating in Streets reportedly using a machete to injure the teenager.
The victim required medical attention at the hospital, where he received treatment. Following the incident, the teenager reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Streets’ arrest and subsequent charges. His court date is currently pending.
