Law enforcement authorities in Spanish Town have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a woman in St Catherine. Her lifeless body was discovered by relatives at her residence.

According to the police report, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., the family of 56-year-old Nicola O’Gilvie found her deceased at her home in Whitewater Meadows Housing Scheme in St Catherine, and promptly contacted the authorities.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered O’Gilvie in her bedroom with a head injury.

It’s been reported that the police are searching for one of the deceased woman’s relatives, with whom she was believed to have had a dispute.

The Hunts Bay Police have charged a suspect, who had been evading capture for two years, with the murder that occurred on June 16, 2022, along Spanish Town Road in St Andrew. The suspect is identified as 27-year-old Tahij Dias from Spanish Town Road, Kingston.

Dias is accused of murdering Junior Barrett, also from Spanish Town Road, Kingston, who was 28 at the time of his death.

The Hunts Bay Police have additionally charged Dias with illegal possession of a firearm, ammunition possession, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

It is alleged by the authorities that on the evening of June 16, 2022, around 9:15 p.m., Barrett was at his gate when nearby residents heard gunshots.

Responding officers discovered Barrett with gunshot wounds and quickly transported him to the hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Following an investigation, Dias was apprehended and charged by the police on Friday, June 7, 2024.

The date for his court appearance is yet to be determined.

The Trelawny police have charged three men for violations of the Firearms Act following a shooting incident in Clarks Town, which resulted in injuries to an older woman and two others. The accused are Marvin Nelson, 27, Romar McIntosh, 26, and Andrae Hall, 23, all of whom are local residents.

The charges include wounding with intent, shooting with intent, illegal possession of a weapon, possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Authorities claim the men were engaged in a dispute with other locals on Paradise Street around 2 a.m. on June 4.

During the altercation, it is alleged that one of the men discharged a firearm, wounding an older woman and two men.

Responding officers transported the wounded to the hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, Nelson, McIntosh, and Hall were apprehended and charged. They await a court date.
 

In Kingston, Jamaica, on Friday, June 7, 2024, authorities charged 35-year-old Dwayne Powell of Tivoli Gardens, Kingston, with simple larceny after he was allegedly captured on CCTV footage taking gold necklaces worth $725,000 from a King Street store.

The incident is said to have taken place on Wednesday, May 18, 2024.

Following an investigation, police arrested Powell. During an identification parade, the complainant identified him as the suspect.

Powell was formally indicted on the same day he was charged, and he is currently awaiting a court date.
