The St. Ann police reportedly confiscated an illicit firearm and multiple cartridges on Saturday, May 24, 2024, as part of an operation conducted in the Tranquility Valley community in Brown’s Town, St. Ann.
Information received indicated that around 11:30 p.m., a team of officers from the Brown’s Town police carried out an operation in the Tranquility Valley community and conducted a thorough search of the specified premises.
During the search, the officers discovered a Glock 19 pistol equipped with a magazine containing nineteen 9mm cartridges concealed within a concrete structure. Subsequently, the police detained three individuals in connection to the seizure. However, the suspects’ identities have not been disclosed, as investigations are ongoing and formal charges are pending.
Vendor from St. Andrew Charged with Attempted Robbery.
According to a report in The Gleaner’s Sunday edition dated May 26, 2024, Kingston Central police have charged a vendor following an alleged assault and attempted robbery of a woman on West Parade, Kingston, on April 28, 2024. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Andre Robinson from Water Street, Arnett Gardens, faces charges of assault with intent to rob, unlawful wounding, and wounding with intent.
The police report details that the incident occurred between 3 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. on April 28, 2024. Robinson allegedly accosted a woman on West Parade, demanding her phone. When she resisted, a struggle ensued, during which Robinson is accused of stabbing her hand with a knife, causing it to bleed. A bystander who intervened was also reportedly stabbed in the chest by Robinson.
The victims were taken to the hospital by police and received medical treatment. Robinson was arrested on May 6, 2024, and formally charged on May 24, 2024, after being positively identified by witnesses during an identification parade in the presence of his lawyer. His court date is set for June 10, 2024.
Woman from the UK facing drug charges after alleged airport cocaine incident.
On Friday, May 24, 2024, a British woman was charged with violating the Dangerous Drugs Act after agents from the Narcotics division found a quantity of cocaine hidden on her body at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Toinette Carew of Essex, England, faces charges of cocaine possession, dealing, intent to export, and conspiracy to export. Allegedly, Carew was about to board a flight when security detected irregularities on her person.
Upon further inspection, officers discovered a cylindrical package wrapped in clear plastic and grey masking tape attached to her body. The parcel, opened in Carew’s presence, contained a white powder that appeared to be cocaine, weighing roughly half a pound. Following the discovery, Carew was arrested and charged, with a court appearance scheduled for May 30, 2024.
