The opposition People’s National Party, PNP, has called on the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Paula Llewellyn, to step aside following the Constitutional Court’s ruling striking down the second extension of the DPP’s tenure.
In response to this significant victory, Opposition Leader Mark Golding has stated that the post of DPP is now considered vacated, emphasizing the immediate need for the Office of the Services Commission to appoint an acting DPP and initiate the search for a new head prosecutor.
Golding emphasized that the court ruling resulted from the Government’s approach to constitutional and parliamentary matters and highlighted the opposition’s preparedness to escalate the matter to the Privy Council if necessary.

A 44-year-old haulage contractor residing on Berkley Avenue, Kingston 3, has been charged with wounding with intent and using a firearm to commit an offense following an incident in his community.
The accused, identified as Raymon McPherson, was involved in an altercation with the complainant at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024. It is reported that McPherson’s vehicle obstructed the complainant’s path as the latter attempted to deliver some items to the location. An argument ensued, culminating in McPherson brandishing a firearm and shooting the complainant twice. The injured individual received medical treatment after being transported to the hospital.
Following an investigation, McPherson was subsequently arrested and charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his legal counsel. The date for his court appearance is pending.
