The court’s ruling in the morning deemed an amendment to the Constitution, passed by the Parliament in July last year, granting a second extension of her tenure as DPP, as illegal and unconstitutional.

Prosecutors informed the presiding judges that they could not continue presenting the cases due to the uncertainty surrounding Ms. Llewellyn’s tenure as chief prosecutor.

Attorney Oswest Senior-Smith, while in the middle of a bail hearing before the St. Ann Circuit Court, was informed by the judge that the prosecutors could not continue arguing the case.

The prosecutors, acting on behalf of the DPP, were unsure about continuing with her status, which is now in limbo.

Mr. Senior-Smith noted, “There is a considered view that having regard to the implications arising from the Constitutional Court’s decision this morning concerning the Director of Public Prosecutions, there may be some difficulties as far as the prosecution is concerned.” He also mentioned that the court cases have been largely adjourned until Monday.
