Another alleged Klansman was fatally shot in what is reported as a shootout with police in Spanish Town.

Another alleged member of the Klansman gang was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police in Greendale, St Catherine, on Saturday, April 20th.

The deceased has been identified as Charles McDonald, also known as ‘Chups’.

Reports indicate that at approximately 2 p.m., a police team conducted an operation in Shelter Rock, Spanish Town, where they encountered McDonald, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

McDonald sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation and was promptly transported to the hospital. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A handgun was recovered at the scene of the incident.

Furthermore, it has been revealed that McDonald, who held the third position on the St Catherine North Police Division’s most wanted list, had recently been acquitted of a murder charge in the St Catherine Circuit Court.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has initiated an inquiry into this incident.

The arrests followed the blockage of several roads by residents protesting the death of 44-year-old Sheldon Walters, known as “Termite,” from Dover district in Kitson Town, on Friday.

Additionally, tensions rose in the Central Village area after the fatal shooting of another man during a reported altercation on Saturday.

The police high command has reassured the public that a combined police and military force has been deployed to maintain order in the area.

It was reported that two of the detainees were sought for questioning in relation to a two-year-old murder case, while another was wanted in connection with a recent shooting.

Amidst tension following the police killing of a reputed Clansman enforcer on Friday, some businesses have closed their shutters. Dennis Robotham, President of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed hope that the police can minimize any potential fallout.

He acknowledged the fear among business operators that violence could erupt in the Old Capital, emphasizing the inevitable impact on commerce when such events occur. Robotham stressed the importance of proper intervention and curtailment by the authorities to mitigate the situation. Business operator Millicent Jameson stated, “I’m not sure what will happen, so I will close up the bar and go home.”

Meanwhile, some taxi operators have reduced their services as they monitor the developments in the St Catherine capital closely.

The alleged shootout that resulted in the death of reputed Clansman gang enforcer Sheldon Walters, also known as Termite, led to anger and grief, with residents blocking sections of Burke Road, Salt Pond Road, and the Spanish Town Bypass.

Police personnel from several formations have been actively working to restore normality to the St Catherine North Division.

Two teenagers are currently being pursued after the fatal stabbing of a man in Bangor Ridge, Buff Bay, Portland, on Friday, April 19, 2024. Police reports indicate that an altercation erupted among men gambling at a local spot that afternoon, escalating into a physical fight between the man and the teenagers. During the scuffle, the man was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a knife.

He was quickly taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Following the incident, the teenagers absconded from the scene and are now wanted by law enforcement.

One of the adolescents is reportedly a ninth-grade student at a Portland high school, and the other was recently expelled from another high school in the adjacent parish of St Mary. Authorities are appealing to the teenagers to surrender to the police.
