British Woman Arrested at Sangster International Airport for Cocaine Possession

A British woman was detained by the police at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, on Monday, February 26, 2024, after authorities purportedly discovered cocaine concealed in Jamaican craft items in her luggage.

Law enforcement officials apprehended her based on reasonable suspicion of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The authorities have withheld the suspect’s identity pending further investigation and the filing of formal charges.

According to the police, at approximately 3 p.m., narcotics operatives apprehended the suspect following the detection of anomalies in her luggage by security agents.

The woman was preparing to board a flight bound for London, England.

Following a preliminary interrogation, the police grew suspicious and conducted a search of her luggage, which led to the discovery of 1.6 kilograms of cocaine concealed within Jamaican craft items.

The estimated street value of the cocaine in the United Kingdom is £38,000.

The suspect was subsequently arrested by the authorities.

On Monday, February 26, 2024, the security forces officially filed charges against the suspect they detained following the alleged confiscation of a loaded gun from his possession at a polling station in Olympic Way, St Andrew.

The individual in question has been identified as 20-year-old Stephon Haslom, a higler residing at a Tamarind Turn address in Kingston 11.

Haslam has been charged by the police with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

As reported by the Hunts Bay police, at approximately 12:50 p.m., law enforcement officers observed the suspect carrying a knapsack at a polling station in the community, displaying behavior that raised suspicion.

The suspect was approached by the police and the knapsack he was carrying was searched.

Subsequently, officers discovered a Glock 26 pistol with a magazine containing five 9mm cartridges in his possession during the search.

The suspect was then apprehended and charged by the police, with a pending court date.

Law enforcement officials in Trelawny apprehended a 41-year-old suspect and confiscated a firearm, two magazines, and a Toyota Mark X motor car after a shooting in Mahogany Hall in Jackson Town, Trelawny, on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The police department reported that at approximately 9:45 a.m., a unit of law enforcement officers responded to Mahogany Hall, where individuals in a Toyota Mark X motor car were allegedly discharging firearms.

Upon their arrival, the officers conducted a thorough cordon and search operation.

The law enforcement authorities specified that they discovered the abandoned Toyota Mark X motorcar in the Level Bottom region of the community on a yam farm within the parish.

Per the police report, a man who claimed to be employed at the farm was observed standing near a freshly formed yam mound close to the Mark X. The officers searched the mound and uncovered a bag containing a Glock 17 pistol and two magazines.

The police took possession of the firearm and vehicle for examination by detectives from the Scene of Crime Unit and detained a 41-year-old man for interrogation.

In the meantime, they appealed to the car’s driver to surrender himself immediately.

Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and aid in the investigation by contacting the Falmouth Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-954-3073, Crime Stop at 311, 811, or using the police 119 emergency number.

The authorities, including the police, firefighters, and military personnel, continue their efforts to recover the body of a man trapped in a sinkhole in the York Castle district of St. Ann.

Despite multiple attempts, the fire and military teams have been unsuccessful in retrieving the body, believed to be that of 60-year-old Robert Nelson, a farmer from York Castle.

According to reports, Mr. Nelson had mentioned to others that he was going to his farm on Monday, February 19. When he did not return home, concerns were raised, leading to a search conducted by residents and the police the following Saturday.

During the search, a sinkhole emitting a foul odor and a pair of brown shoes suspected to belong to Mr. Nelson were discovered.

Radio Jamaica News received information that several firefighters descended into the sinkhole and observed a human body lying face down approximately 100 feet below. However, they encountered difficulties in extracting the body.
