The Area One police have revealed that Peter Johnson, a 25-year-old individual, was fatally shot during a confrontation in Flanker, St James, on Monday, February 2024.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Chambers, Johnson was wanted by the police in connection to serious crimes, including murders and shootings.
Chambers dismissed claims by residents that Johnson was unarmed at the time of the shooting, stating that Johnson had been a person of interest and the subject of several joint police-military operations. He further mentioned Johnson’s involvement in several murders and shootings within the St James Police Division.
The security forces engaged with Johnson after he challenged them and fired upon their approach. Johnson reportedly opened fire at the law enforcers, who returned fire. Johnson was later found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has initiated an investigation into the incident.

Linstead, St Catherine, Jamaica – A tragic incident unfolded in Linstead as an unidentified assailant fatally shot a Bog Walk resident along the New Works Main Road on Monday morning, February 26, 2024.
The victim, identified as 55-year-old Renford Paisley, a chauffeur from a Main Street address in Bog Walk, St Catherine, was found beside a grey Toyota Probox motorcar near the New Works Pine Farm, succumbing to what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Residents of the New Works Housing Scheme alerted the authorities after hearing loud explosions around 9:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, the police transported Paisley to the Linstead Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The motive behind this heinous act remains unknown, and the police are actively pursuing an investigation into this distressing event.
Irish Town man charged over gun attack.
On Sunday, February 25, 2024, law enforcement in Iris Town, St Andrew, took legal action against a resident whom they alleged to be accountable for the aggressive gun assault on a group of men on February 20. This violent incident resulted in one individual being hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.
Ivan Manyan, 39, residing in the Long Gate district, faces charges of wounding with intent, employing a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and two counts of shooting with intent.
As per law enforcement reports, the shooting transpired in Irish Town on Tuesday, February 20, at approximately 9:15 p.m. Allegedly, a confrontation ensued between Manyan and a group of men, leading to Manyan’s departure. Subsequently, he purportedly reappeared armed with a firearm and opened fire on the group, forcing the men to seek shelter. Tragically, one man sustained severe injuries from multiple gunshot wounds.
Prompt assistance from local residents ensured that the injured man received urgent medical attention at the hospital. A thorough investigation led to Manyan surrendering himself the following day. After being identified in a lineup and participating in a question-and-answer session in the presence of his legal representative, Manyan faced formal charges on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
His appearance in court is pending.
Two men in custody after $26 million ganja/cocaine find in St Thomas.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, law enforcement officials from the Narcotics Division carried out a seizure of a substantial amount of cannabis and multiple packages containing cocaine at Windy Way, Blue Mahoe, St Thomas, during a targeted operation.
As per the reports, the officers executed a focused search within the community. During the examination of a shed, the authorities discovered 1,229 kilograms of cannabis, with an estimated value of $12,290,000, and 31.4 kilograms of cocaine, valued at US$94,200 (over Ja$14 million).
Two individuals were apprehended by the authorities and are currently held pending further investigation and the filing of formal charges.
