Political News Roundup: In this news, PNP Mark Golding called Venesha Phillips a traitor. Venesha Phillips hits back at Mark Golding, and St Thomas police launched a probe into an altercation between a JLP councilor and a PNP supporter.

PNP president Mark Golding passionately branded the councilor for the Papine Division in the KSAMC, Venesha Phillips, a traitor at a powerful mass meeting of comrades in his South St. Andrew stronghold of Arnett Gardens on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Miss Phillips, once a staunch critic of Mark Golding, has strong family ties to the PNP but shockingly turned her back on the party after the 2020 General Election.

Having secured victory in the Papine Division for the PNP in 2012 and 2016, Miss Phillips made a dramatic shift in allegiance to the JLP in November 2023.

The electric atmosphere of Sunday’s meeting in Arnett Gardens featured the official presentation of the PNP’s passionate parliamentary and municipal candidates in waiting for constituencies and divisions in Kingston and St. Andrew.

Councillor Venesha Phillips, representing the Papine Division, has emphatically rejected Mark Golding’s accusation of betrayal, dismissing it as baseless.

Having secured victory in the Papine Division for the PNP in 2012 and 2016, Phillips later severed ties with the party in 2020, subsequently aligning herself with the JLP in 2023.

In response to Golding’s accusation, Phillips labeled him a hypocrite, attributing the introduction of treachery to the PNP to him.

Expressing her commitment to a brighter future for the nation’s citizens, Phillips, seeking re-election under the JLP banner, asserted her pride in belonging to a party dedicated to national progress.

Phillips confidently stated that Mark Golding would regret his words once the votes were tallied on election night in the Papine Division.

ST THOMAS, Jamaica — The St. Thomas police have launched an investigation into an incident involving a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor being attacked by a man dressed in orange.

According to reports, the JLP councillor was assaulted by the individual in orange while conducting business at premises near the new Morant Bay Urban Centre construction site.

A one-minute video obtained by Observer Online captures the man in orange approaching the councillor’s vehicle, where he was accompanied by a female. After a brief exchange, the situation quickly escalated.

The footage shows the councilor, wearing a green shirt, exiting the vehicle as the altercation ensues. The councilor is seen defending himself while the man in orange initiates the confrontation. The video also captures the councilor drawing his firearm as others come to his aid.

The incident is eventually diffused as individuals intervene, leading to the man in orange being taken away by another person.

The cause of the altercation remains unclear at this time.
