In a tragic incident along the North-South Highway in St. Ann, Constable Rushane Lee, a dedicated officer from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, has tragically passed away. The Police High Command has expressed deep sadness over Lee’s untimely death, which occurred yesterday, February 1, 2024, at the hospital.

At this difficult time, the Chaplaincy Branch and the Welfare Department are providing crucial support to Constable Lee’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Lee sustained serious injuries, including to his head, after being struck by a speeding Toyota Probox motor car during a late-night vehicular checkpoint duty on January 31. Despite being rushed to St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital and admitted for treatment, he did not recover from his injuries.

This unfortunate loss serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, detectives from the Montego Bay PD officially charged a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Wesley Reid and the injuring of a female relative on Market Street in Montego Bay in December 2023.

The accused, Oraine Anderson, also known as ‘Proper,’ aged 34, and a chef from the Bamboo district in Hopewell, Hanover, faces charges of murder, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

The tragic incident took place on the morning of December 5, 2023. Reportedly, at approximately 11:48 a.m., Wesley Reid and a female relative were walking along the roadway when they were attacked by a gunman, resulting in both individuals being shot.

Upon receiving the distressing report, the local authorities responded promptly and transported the victims to the hospital. Regrettably, despite their efforts, Wesley Reid succumbed to his injuries, while the female relative required admission for medical care.

Following an exhaustive investigation, Oraine Anderson turned himself into the police, accompanied by legal representation, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Subsequently, the authorities apprehended Anderson, and his court date is pending.

Falmouth police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of two individuals in separate incidents in Falmouth, Trelawny, on Wednesday night, January 31, 2024.

The deceased, identified as Noel Wilson, aged 44, of Water Lane, Falmouth, and Joel Corey of Martha Brae, were both residents of Trelawny. The first incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Parade Street near a public sanitary facility, where Wilson was attacked by an unknown assailant armed with a knife and fatally stabbed in the neck and chest.

Later, at approximately 11:17 p.m., while the police were still at the Parade Street crime scene, they were called to Water Square in the town where Corey had also been fatally stabbed. Corey was rushed to the Falmouth General Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The police have stated that they anticipate making a formal charge in the near future.
