A British woman of Jamaican descent faced charges related to the discovery of cocaine hidden in powdered milk as she attempted to board a flight to London. Mitzie Graham, 53, employed as a health care assistant, is accused of possession, dealing, and taking steps to export cocaine.

The alleged incident took place on January 17, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m. during her check-in at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport. Security screening revealed 4.8 kilograms of cocaine hidden in nine large packages labeled as “Lasco” in her suitcase, with an estimated street value of US$144,000 or J$20,736,000.

According to her attorney, Orville Morgan, Graham stated she was carrying the milk product for a friend named ‘Munchie’ who had asked her to collect it.

The woman reportedly disclosed the arrangement to the police when asked about the contents of her luggage. Despite the attorney’s intention to apply for bail on the next court date, Graham was remanded until March 6, 2024, when a bail application was scheduled to be heard.

The arrest of Graham sparked public outrage in London, leading to protests outside the residence of the individual accused of setting her up, with demands for her to surrender to the authorities.
