Judicial Scoop–A St. Catherine Parish judge has imposed a significant fine on a defendant for unauthorized use of a customer’s vehicle, resulting in a crash during a police pursuit.
Kevin Williams, 28, has been fined $200,000 or faces six months imprisonment for the deliberate damage of property, as well as an additional $200,000 or another six months in prison. Furthermore, 14 demerit points have been deducted for reckless driving, and he has been fined $50,000 or faces 30 days in jail, as well as 14 demerit points for driving without a valid driver’s license.
In addition, he has been fined $50,000 or faces 30 days in jail for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and another $30,000 or 30 days for not having insurance coverage.
These sentences were issued by Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle.
Allegations reported by the Gleaner state that on December 31, 2023, in Spanish Town, Williams drove away with a Honda Civic without the owner’s consent after being entrusted with washing the vehicle.
After the police signaled for him to stop, Williams engaged in a pursuit through several streets in Spanish Town, which concluded with a collision at Burke Road.
Subsequently, Williams was arrested and charged by the police.
St Catherine man pleads guilty to wounding relative with glass bottles.
Judicial Scoop–A man appeared before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, facing a charge of unlawful wounding of a relative and pleaded guilty. The judge remanded Kemar Daley until March 5, 2024, when he will reappear before the court for sentencing.
It was disclosed to the court that Daley suffers from psychiatric problems, and as such, a social inquiry report was ordered by the judge. Despite his condition, Daley was deemed fit to enter a plea and admitted to committing the crime in court.
According to the allegation, on October 24, 2023, Daley asked the complainant to meet him outside her house, where he proceeded to throw several glass bottles at her, resulting in multiple injuries to the complainant.
Mandeville Police Arrest and Charge Suspect After Shootout During Robbery Attempt
The Mandeville police have taken into custody and pressed charges against an individual involved in a shootout with the authorities following an attempted robbery in the Comfort District, Manchester, on New Year’s Eve.
The suspect, identified by the police as Tyrese Smile, also known as ‘Cuz,’ ‘Swible,’ and ‘Baps,’ is 20 years old and works as a construction worker in Heartsease District, Mandeville, in Manchester.
Authorities have charged Smile with assault with intent to rob, assault at common law, non-fatal shooting of a male suspect, and unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The incident unfolded at around 3:45 p.m. when the police responded to a Mini-Mart in Comfort District, where Smile and another individual reportedly attempted to carry out a robbery. A confrontation ensued between the assailants, an additional individual, and law enforcement.
It is alleged that Smile opened fire at the police, resulting in the authorities returning fire. Both Smile and his accomplice managed to evade capture.
Subsequently, the police received information from a nearby hospital indicating that Smile was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
Upon receiving this information, law enforcement officers located and apprehended Smile, who purportedly provided them with details regarding the location of the firearm used during the altercation with the police.
Acting on this information, the police recovered a Glock pistol along with a magazine containing seventeen rounds.
Smile was arrested and charged, with his court date yet to be determined.
The search for Smile’s accomplice is ongoing.
