Tragic Loss in Islington: Mourning the Passing of Tameika Atherton
Heartbreak enveloped the community of Islington when news of the passing of nineteen-year-old bartender Tameika “Nicky” Atherton emerged. On a fateful Tuesday, January 2, she was found near her home, the police deeming her untimely death a suicide.
“This was her second attempt… She had tried before. She was seen hanging from a tree and was cut down. She did it again today,” shared Superintendent Bobette Morgan-Simpson, head of the St Mary Police Division, with Observer Online.
According to reports from the authorities, Atherton had been at home on Sports Road in Islington when she mentioned to her mother and stepfather that she was heading outside to do the laundry.
Her stepfather grew concerned after she did not return for several hours. Tragically, he discovered her lifeless body hanging from a tree by a hose. The police were summoned, and Atherton’s body was subsequently removed.
Speculation surrounding her passing hints at the hardships she may have been enduring, encompassing financial struggles and relationship woes.
As the Islington police delve into the circumstances, the community is left mourning the loss of a young soul gone too soon.
Wife taken into custody in connection with husband’s killing.
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Sylvia Montaque Brown, the woman suspected of involvement in the killing of her husband, David Brown, 59, a fisherman in Wakefield, Trelawny, is currently in police custody.
Reports indicate that, accompanied by her attorney, she surrendered herself at the Falmouth Police Station on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10:00 am.
Sylvia had not been publicly visible since the discovery of her deceased husband’s body. Initially considered a person of interest, she was upgraded to a suspect on Monday, January 1, 2024, following the arrest of her brother, Lester ‘Judge’ Montaque, 60, a gardener, for the murder of her husband.
The police revealed that David Brown’s body was found on Saturday, December 30, 2023, on a zinc sheet in bushes near the couple’s residence. The body, bearing multiple wounds, was wrapped in a white sheet.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Winston Milton, the Commander of the Trelawny Police Division, stated that the Browns were involved in a domestic altercation on the night of Friday, December 29, 2023. Alleged threats were made during the confrontation, and Montaque Brown reported the incident to the police.
Law enforcement officers visited the couple’s home and cautioned both parties to maintain peace.
On Saturday, December 30, 2023, around 7:00 am, community members contacted the police after hearing a disturbance at the couple’s residence.
