HOPEWELL, HANOVER, Jamaica– The Commanding Officer for the Hanover Police Division, Ian Mowatt, has issued a plea to the public, urging them to come forward with any information that may assist the police in their investigation into the tragic murder of the Hopewell High School bursar.

Jermaine Roberts, aged thirty-five and a resident of St James, was reportedly fatally shot by a lone gunman just before four o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, December 20, 2023, as he prepared to leave the school premises.
Tragically, Roberts succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The school’s Principal, Byron Grant, who was present during the incident, sustained injuries while attempting to evade the assailant and received medical treatment at a nearby facility.
Superintendent Mowatt emphasized the importance of witness cooperation, stressing that the school’s surveillance cameras will support the investigation. He appealed to anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything related to the incident to come forward and assist the police in swiftly concluding the investigation.
This devastating event marks the second violent incident at the institution, following the murder of 32-year-old New Testament Church of God Minister Keaven Dixon in 2010. Reverend Dixon was fatally shot by an individual posing as a parent while attempting to collect his job confirmation letter at the school where he was due to commence teaching.

The accused individuals, Orain Harris, 23, Ayden Smart, also 23, and Kazrae Gray, 32, face charges of breaching the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act and conspiracy to breach the same act.
Their actions, which included posing as public health officers, presenting fraudulent identification cards, and falsely addressing the audience, were recorded and shared on social media, resulting in their arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
The court dates for the accused are pending, and it remains unclear whether they have been granted bail.
