The suspect in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Talia escapes police custody.

An accused felon whom hospital authorities admitted for treatment he sustained during an attempted suicide after he allegedly raped and murdered an eight-year-old talia escaped police custody under the watch of two constables. The police have launched an all Island search fot the suspect.

27-year-old Troy Ellis, a hotel worker of Fort Land, Discovery Bay, St Ann, has been admitted to the medical facility with self-inflicted wounds since Saturday, September 23, the same day he reportedly brutally raped and murdered little Talia, a promising fourth-grade student of Discovery Bay Primary School has escaped from police guard at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital.

Preliminary reports indicated that the suspect freed himself from a handcuff intended to restrain him to his hospital bed on Saturday night, September 30, 2023, and made good his escape.

In a statement published on Sunday morning, October 1, 2023, the police confirmed the escape. They indicated that they had launched a search to recapture the suspect.

The police are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Troy Ellis to contact the St Ann’s Bay police at 972-2209, the police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the police warned members of the public that it is a criminal offense to harbor fugitives.

Man charged following firearm, ammo seizure in Kingston

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police in Kingston, Jamaica, arrested and charged a suspect following the seizure of a firearm and ammunition by members of the Jamaica Defense Force while performing foot patrol at the intersection of First and Seventh Avenues in Greenwich Farm, Kingston, on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

The authorities identified the suspect as Rolando Rainford, o/c ‘RJ,’ and ‘Buggart,’ age 32, of Seventh Avenue. The police charged him with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

The police said at about 6:50 p.m., a team of JDF members were on foot patrol in the community when they observed the suspect in a stooping position along the roadway. He aroused their suspicion, so they accosted and searched him. During the search, the soldiers removed one 9mm Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing 15 rounds from his waistband.

The soldiers took Rainford to the Hunts Bay Police Station, where they handed over to the police. And the police charged him.

His court appearance date is pending.
