The police have identified the suspect they shot and killed during a confrontation in Central Village, St Catherine, on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as Shaquil Smith, o/c ‘DJ,’ age 20, a late resident of Board Jungle, Central Village in St. Catherine.
According to the police, at about 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, law enforcement officers were on patrol in the Big Lane section of the community. Upon entering the intersection of Tait Drive and Central Road, they saw Smith run off once he saw the patrol approaching.
The police pursued the suspect into a premises where he allegedly pointed a gun at the cops.
The police reportedly took evasive action and opened at the suspect.
The police transported him to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The police recovered a Ruger 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing six cartridges and a separate magazine containing 15 cartridges from the suspect’s body.
Police charged suspect after pilfering Guys Hill High School farm.

According to reporting, at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2023, residents observed strange activities at the school’s farm and alerted the police.
The police responded and caught the suspect with nine bunches of plantains and three bunches of bananas, valued at about $40,000.
The police arrested and charged the suspect.

A Clarendon man who pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and dealing in cocaine and paid the fine of $1.3 million when he appeared before the St. Catherine Parish on Thursday, September 14, 2023, could be facing more legal jeopardy.
When Nicholas Graham, a 46-year-old laborer of Lionel Town, Clarendon, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and dealing in cocaine in the St Catherine Parish Court on Thursday, he probably thought everything was honky-dory.
He was wrong because the Financial Investigations Division (FID) has filed a motion to forfeit his ill-gotten gains.
According to reporting, on July 15, 2019, Graham was driving a black 2009 BMW when members of the narcotics police stopped him on a section of Highway 2000 in St Catherine.
Graham was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time.
During a vehicle search, the police found packages of food and condiments containing cocaine weighing six pounds and three ounces, valued at $4 million. Plus, a sum of $300,000.
The police subsequently arrested and charged.
After a family member paid the fine the court imposed on Thursday, the FID made a forfeiture application in the High Court to seize the assets of the convict, including the car the police confiscated at the time of his arrest.
The authorities released Graham on a $500,000 bond, pending the outcome of the court proceedings in the High Court.
