Tension heightens in Grants Pen following the brutal murder of a businessman.

According to a police release, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at about 12:45 a.m., unknown assailants shot and killed a businessman at Grants Pen Road and Shortwood Road in St Andrew. As a result, tension has heightened in the community.

The police identified the deceased as Dwayne’ 6′ Williams, age 33, a businessman of Border Avenue, Heavenale, St Andrew.

Residents heard explosions and alerted the police. Upon arrival, the police found Williams slumped over the steering of a bullet-riddled white Toyota Axio motor car, suffering from gunshot wounds.

The police did not establish a motive for the killing.

The St Andrew North police have increased their presence in the community.

Police found gun and ammo inside concrete block in Greenwich Town.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Gumshoes attached to the Hunts Bay police station reported that on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, a police team recovered a pistol and several rounds of ammunition inside a concrete block during an operation in Greenwich Town, Kingston. 

According to the police report, they seized a Taurus semi-automatic pistol fitted with a magazine containing three 9mm cartridges on Fourth Street at about 3:30 p.m. The police said the weapon was hidden in the pocket of a concrete block.

The police did not make any arrests.

Man of unsound mind attacked nurse on hospital compound in Clarendon.

The Southern Regional Health Authority is reporting that additional security measures have been put in place at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon following an incident on Sunday, September 10, where a nurse was attacked and injured by a man on the grounds of the medical facility.

According to reports, the nurse was repeatedly hit with a stone by the man, who officials claim is of an unsound mind.

The incident triggered a meeting on September 11, 2023, with the management team, the nursing group, and other personnel.

SRHA officials promised that the authorities would immediately implement additional security measures at the hospital.

Security officers will accompany Staff on the night shift who are leaving the compound to their vehicles or pick-up point.

The police officers assigned to the police post at the hospital will be doing increased patrols.

The Clarendon police have agreed to increase mobile patrol on the compound.
