Law enforcement identified the deceased as Brandon Reid, o/c ‘Red Man,’ age 19, a late resident of Crescent Road.

Residents Demand Justice . Residents blocked Crescent Road and Spanish Town Road intersections to demand justice.

They claimed the Police shot and killed the suspect as he begged the Police to spare his life.

Additionally, the angry protesters disputed the Police’s claim that there was a shootout. 

At approximately 2:50 a.m., Zone 1 Operational Support Team members were patrolling Crescent Road when they heard explosions.

Moments later, officers observed a man wearing a blue shirt exiting Bowens Road onto Crescent Road while holding a firearm.

They reportedly called out to him. He pointed the gun at them and opened fire. This resulted in an exchange of fire.

The Police say the man ran in the direction of a football field and fell.

Officers transported the wounded man to hospital, where the authorities pronounced him dead.

The Police say during a search of the area, they seized a Glock 19 pistol with one magazine containing eight rounds.

In the meantime, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating 31 fatal shootings. These involve members of the security forces and have occurred since the beginning of the year.

Residents Demand Justice. The latest incident took place early Tuesday morning along Crescent Road in the St. Andrew South Police Division.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon Reid, also known as ‘Red Man’, was fatally shot. This incident occurred during a reported confrontation with a police team shortly after 2 a.m.

Residents Demand Justice. Residents protested against the killing by mounting roadblocks along Crescent Road, off Spanish Town Road. They claim Reid was shot while pleading for his life.

The police reported that they recovered a Glock 19 pistol during a search of the area. The pistol had one magazine containing eight rounds.

INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner spoke with Radio Jamaica News on Tuesday afternoon. He stated that his team is collecting statements regarding the case.

Residents Demand Justice. “The officers reported that shortly before 3 a.m., while on mobile patrol, they heard explosions that sounded like gunshots. The officers further reported that they encountered a man who opened fire at the police team. The fire was returned, the man fell, and the firearm and ammunition were recovered,” he said.

Mr. Faulkner also mentioned that none of the officers involved in any of the 31 fatal shootings were wearing body cameras.
