Gunshots blaze in Independence City, Portmore, St Catherine yesterday as security guards tried desperately to push back armed thugs intent on robbing a delivery van.
According to reporting, workers at City Variety Store were offloading goods from a delivery van when robbers held them at gunpoint and took their cell phones.
Then, the robbers stole goods from the van. As they began to load the stolen goods into a white Toyota Probox motorcar, a response team from King Alarm Security arrived on the scene, and gunshots blaze like it was the Wild West.
The robbers shot one of the guards, but his bulletproof vest protected him from serious injuries. He later sought medical attention.
The robbers subsequently fled the scene in the Toyota Probox motorcar.
The police responded with operations in sections of the Corporate Area to locate the stolen items and the robbers.
According to the police, it’s likely that the shooting shots by hoodlums in the Westchester community early in the day were part of the criminal plan to distract the police.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

According to reports, the police responded to an SOS stating that men traveling in a particular car had shot and killed a man in the Riversdale community.
The police intercepted a car in the Bog Walk Gorge that fit the description from the Riversdale shooting.
A shoot-out reportedly ensued, and the police shot and killed one man.
The other men escaped in the car. The police said they recovered an illegal gun following the shooting.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the St. Ann police seized one 9mm Taurus pistol and a magazine containing seven 9mm cartridges in Runaway Bay, St. Ann.

According to the police, at about 10:30 p.m., a police team was on patrol along the Runaway Main Road. They observed a Camry motor driving recklessly and signaled the driver to stop.
The police said the driver disobeyed and sped away.
Later, the police found the motor car abandoned along the roadway after it collided with a fence.
The police searched the motor vehicle and found the firearm and ammunition.
