PORTLAND, Jamaica – On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, an off-duty police officer shot and killed a suspect who allegedly attempted to rob him in Port Antonio,
The police identified the deceased as Rohane Brown, age 29, of an unknown address.
According to reports, at about 1:40 p.m., the police constable was at a building on Gideon Avenue when Brown approached and demanded the constable to hand over the money he had in his hand.
The cop refused, and Brown responded threateningly, telling the constable that he would kill and take it.
Then Brown pulled a ratchet knife and advanced towards the cop who, fearing for his life, drew his licensed firearm and discharged one round, hitting Brown. He scampered away, but he collapsed.
Brown was later pronounced dead at the hospital by the authorities.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the incident.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, a Port Royal man died in a motor vehicle accident along the Sir Florizel Glasspole Main Road, Kingston.
The police identified the deceased as Devon Edwards of Port Royal, Kingston.
According to the Harbor View police, at about 11 p.m., Edwards was a passenger in a Mazda Demio motorcar en route to St Thomas.
The vehicle driver reportedly lost control while navigating wet road conditions, overturning the car.
As a result, Edwards was ejected from the vehicle and sustained several significant injuries.
The police transported Edwards, another passenger, and the motorcar driver to the hospital, where Edwards died while undergoing treatment.
The authorities admitted the other two persons for treatment.
The police are investigating.
