Newsworthy
9/11

On this day 22 years ago (“We Will Never Forget”), four planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania —nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in hours.
Many of us will pause today to honor the victims of that fateful day, September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and reflect on the tragedy’s permanent emotional toll on the nation. A total of 2,753 people reported missing in lower Manhattan after the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Today, 40% of the victims, or about 1,100 people thought to have died in the disaster, remain unidentified. New York City officials last week identified two new victims through DNA testing. Work is ongoing to identify others as their loved ones continue to grieve.
Morocco earthquake
Morocco’s rescuers continue searching for survivors from Friday’s devastating earthquake, which killed more than 2,100 people. The epicenter of the 6.8-magnitude quake left remote villages in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains entirely in ruins. Eyewitnesses in the region say entire towns have been destroyed.
Prison escapee

Law enforcement agencies extended their search for the convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante, who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison. The convicted killer slid through a police dragnet over the weekend and stole a van. The 34-year-old inmate was spotted more than 20 miles from where police were looking.
