Gum Shoes, assigned to the Major Investigation Division, arrested and charged a suspect with July 30, 2023, Burgher Gully shooting. Two persons died, including an eight-year-old boy, and two others were injured.

The police identified the suspect as Kevin Smith, o/c ‘Tallist’ or ‘Gangster Nird,’ of a Kingston 2 address. They charged him with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent on Friday, August 11, 2021, after an eyewitness pointed him out on an ID parade.
Also, the police charged Smith’s accomplices posthumously. The police found their bodies one day after the July 30 shooting.
The authorities identified the deceased murderers as Omario Lawrence, age 19, and Calhime Campbell, o/c ‘Kutchie,’ age 21, a late construction worker. Both dead men were residents of Vineyard Town.
According to reporting, on July 30, 2023, at about 10:00 pm, armed thugs opened gunfire on a group of people in the Burgher Gully community and fled.
After the shooting, citizens found four persons suffering from gunshot wounds.
The police transported the victims to the hospital, where 8-year-old DJ Dawes and 34-year-old Joel Lemmanaus died, and the authorities admitted the others.
The police launched an investigation which revealed that two men, whose bodies the police found on Glendale Avenue, Kingston 2 on Monday, July 31, were with Smith at the Burgher Gully shooting. The police charged them posthumously.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Smith on Monday, July 31. The police charged on Friday, August 11, following an identification parade.
Smith’s court date is pending.
Police charged a licensed firearm holder with assault at common law.
Law enforcement officers attached to the Glengoffe police station arrested a businessman and licensed firearm holder after allegedly using his firearm to threaten a female and her 10-year-old son during a dispute.

The police identified the businessman as Kenrick Ferguson, age 51, a businessman of Glengoffe, St Catherine. The police charged him with assault at common law, using a firearm to commit a felony, unauthorized use of a licensed gun, and malicious destruction of property.
According to the police, the complainant and the accused got embroiled in a dispute between Friday, August 11, and Saturday, August 12.
During an exchange of words, the accused used his firearm to threaten the complainant and her 10-year-old son. He then damaged her Toyota motorcar.
The police intervened and apprehended Ferguson. The police later charged Ferguson. His court date is pending.
