On Monday, August 14, 2023, police arrested and charged a female at the Sangster Airport in Montego Bay, St James, with lottery scamming after they caught her with a package containing American bank cards hidden in a shoe.

The police charged 24-year-old Selina Anderson of Camelot Village, Discovery Bay, St Ann, with possession of identity information and access devices.

According to the police, the suspect collected a package at the customs cargo area of the airport.

The authorities searched the package and allegedly found two US bank cards hidden inside a shoe.

The authorities turned the suspect over to the Lottery Scam Task Force–they launched an investigation.

The police arrested the suspect and carried out a raid at her premises.

The police say an onsite analysis of her cell phone revealed several documents with overseas persons’ identification information, banking information, and credit card information.

The police subsequently charged the suspect with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provisions) Act.

Her court date is pending.

Thugs gunned down a man and injured a 12-year-old in Bascobel, St. Mary. 

Detectives in St. Mary have launched a probe into the murder of a male adult and the wounding of a 12-year-old boy in Bascobel View on Monday evening, August 14, 2023.

The police identified the deceased as Javain ‘Ratty’ White, age 27, late resident of Bank Lane, Annotto Bay, in St Mary.

According to reporting at about 9 pm on Monday, August 14, 2023, Whyte reportedly received a telephone call to meet someone in Boscobel regarding a motorbike part. He left home with the 12-year-old and two other children.  

While on his way home, a white Toyota Probox motor car, registered 3105 KO, drove up with men aboard and fired several shots at him, hitting him in the head and upper body and the 12-year-old in his right side.

Residents alerted the police and rushed the boy to the hospital, where the authorities admitted him.

Meanwhile, the police arrived at the crime scene and transported White to the hospital, where he died.

The police did not establish a motive for the shooting.
