On Monday morning, August 14, 2023, security forces were engaged in a shootout along a section of the Dyke Road with men linked to the August 12, 2023, arson and shooting attack on Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park, Portmore, St. Catherine.

The acting commander of St. Catherine South Police Superintendent Hopton Nicholson confirmed the shooting.
“About four persons engaged the police in a shootout close to the Dyke Road. It’s an ongoing operation based on what we have put in this area for about 48 hours. And it’s just unfortunate that they got away, but we are happy that our police officers are safe and the investigation continues,” he said.
Superintendent Nicholson was among members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, and Member of Parliament for East Central St. Catherine Alando Terrelonge, who toured sections of Gregory Park on Monday.
The tour followed the attack by gunmen early Saturday morning, which left a taxi operator dead and several houses torched.
